Although ‘iBeacon’ has been the buzz-word for the past few months, there are significant drawbacks with the technology for the foreseeable future, as we will outline below:

Less than 5% of shoppers have their Bluetooth switched on and will remain so for the foreseeable future until the ‘wearables’ and mobile payment take off.

iBeacon requires a mobile application to be installed. Now, not only you need them to install a mobile application, you also require them to switch on Bluetooth to fully make use of iBeacon.

iBeacon has a shorter range (up to 70m) than our WiFi sensor (up to 100m).
